Waste Prevention & Inspection Officer:

We are recruiting for a Waste Prevention & Inspection Officer on behalf of our client based in Birmingham area. As a Waste Prevention & Inspection Officer you will be expected to take a responsible approach to enforcing and advising Waste Prevention across Birmingham, carrying out inspections where required.

As a Waste Prevention & Inspection Officer you will need to have/be:

  • Must be able to drive and have access to own car
  • Disclosure Barring Certificate (DBS)
  • Knowledge of Waste Prevention & Re-use, Recycle and Composting
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Packages, inclusive of Excel
  • No unspent criminal convictions
  • Ability to prioritise, implement and monitor work with conflicting priorities in line with targets and objectives in a pressurised environment
  • Able to work with a proactive, problem solving approach
  • Ability to work with people in challenging circumstances and to maintain a calm and professional approach

Details:

  • Hourly Rate: £9 tbc
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Weekly Hours: 36.5 hrs

Duties and Responsibilities of a Waste Prevention & Inspection Officer:

  • Ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of waste prevention projects through the use of a planned programme of information, education and preventative/enforcement action where appropriate.
  • Responsible for monitoring operational service delivery.
  • Producing reports as required.
  • Provision of information, education campaigns and to work with residents, traders, schools and other organisations to promote waste prevention and increase re-use, recycling and composting.
  • Assisting the Senior Inspector to plan inspection programmes and undertaking special projects as required.
  • Delivering a targeted inspection programme to assess standards of service delivery and compliance with legislation.
  • Raising issues of poor service or Health and Safety via the inspection process directly with relevant employees and supervisors where appropriate.
  • Initiating Legal action where there is continued non-compliance.
  • Collating, maintaining and presenting evidence of criminal enforcement matters within formal legal processes and proceedings.
  • Providing a holistic response to maintaining the cleanliness of the local environment.
  • Making recommendations relating to potential service improvement.
  • Use of a range of IT systems to record, analyse and interpret information.
  • Regularly producing management information detailing findings of the Inspection Programme and presenting to the relevant service providers and local structures.
  • Responsible for all administrative duties required.

Skill and Experience of a Waste Prevention & Inspection Officer:
