Currently seeking a Waste Prevention and Inspection Officer to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of waste prevention projects and programmes through a planned programme of information, education and preventative / enforcement action.

As a Waste Prevention and Inspection Officer you will be monitoring operational service delivery within Birmingham, the production of associated reports and the dissemination of relevant information to service providers.

Role of Waste Prevention and Inspection Officer

  • To deliver a targeted inspection programme across Birmingham to ensure that Birmingham businesses are complying with the statutory provisions relating to the disposal of trade waste. To ensure that instances of non-compliance are immediately dealt with through the provision of advice and assistance, or to initiate legal action where there is continued non-compliance.
  • To undertake an inspection programme across Birmingham that will objectively assess standards of service delivery, compliance with Health and Safety legislation across all service delivery areas.
  • To deliver a targeted inspection programme to ensure that the City’s Household Recycling Centres are used in accordance with statutory, contractual and policy requirements. To carry out inspections of assets as directed, such as litterbins, containers, recycling banks etc.
  • To deliver targeted / responsive actions and campaigns that ensure compliance with the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation associated with maintaining the cleanliness of the built environment.
  • To use a range of IT systems to record, analyse and interpret information and produce reports as required.
  • To raise issues of poor service/Health and Safety arising from the inspection process directly with relevant employees and supervisors where it is appropriate and beneficial to do so. To regularly produce management information detailing the findings of the inspection programme and to present these to relevant service providers and local structures (including ward Committees) to inform progress against performance targets.
  • To assist the Senior Inspector to plan inspection programmes to include all operational services and to undertake special projects as required.

Experience required of Waste Prevention and Inspection Officer

  • Experience of working in a waste management environment or similar field / role
  • Experience in the monitoring and reporting of environmental legislation and operational service delivery

Key Skills of Waste Prevention and Inspection Officer

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management and conflict resolution experience
  • Ability to prioritise workload efficiently
  • Ability to prepare and present written reports and statistical information
  • Strong user of Microsoft office packages / Bespoke systems
  • Must have a proactive approach and use initiative

Requirements of Waste Prevention and Inspection Officer

  • Valid DBS certificate is required
  • Full Valid UK Driver’s License is essential
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and health & safety procedures

As a Business Intelligence Manager you will need to have:

  • Strong Business Intelligence knowledge is essential
  • Previously used BI and data warehouse tools (including ETL)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Experience of developing and leading a team of analysts and developers within a demanding 24×7 data warehousing/business intelligence environment
  • Project Management experience (managing a mixed programme of projects at the same time)
  • Previously monitored and mentored technical staff

  • Manage and tune processes that collect, publish and assemble information (including unstructured and semi-structured forms) to deliver to the user at the point at which it is needed

  • Responsible for the specification, asset management and licence renewal of specialist business intelligence software
  • Responsible for specific business intelligence project budgets
  • You will have 7 direct reports in 4 professional groups
  • Design overall support information structures
  • Takes responsibility for publishing assignments, including, for example, design of the overall structure and graphical style for substantial, complex or high profile web sites
  • Sets design and coding standards
  • Develop and maintain one or more defined communication channel and/or stakeholder group
  • Agrees changes to be made and the planning and implementation of change
  • Lead a team and provide expert technical knowledge in the systems testing of platform specific versions of the software products, on varying platform
